WHAT IS RECREATIONAL MUSIC MAKING?
Remo healthRHYTHMS ™ recreational music making is a research-based, group empowerment drumming/percussion protocol designed to promote wellness and reduce stress without requiring musical talent or training. It uses accessible percussion instruments in a facilitated circle to lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve mood, and foster social connection. (AI definition)
What to expect
Normally a class will last for 6 weeks. Each session is no longer than 1 hour. In each session you will experience opportunities for rhythm/music exploration using various percussion instruments. You will be invited (but never required)to speak on feelings and observations, and short guided imagery meditations are also part of each class format.
Most importantly, this is not a traditional drum circle, nor is this considered to be music therapy. I am not a certified music therapist. However, studies have shown these sessions when experienced over a 6 week period can be considered very theraputic and often healing to our mind, body and spirit.
If you are interested I am also available to conduct single session workshops that will introduce you and your group of choice to the concept of Recreational Music Making. Or I can come to your facility to hold a 6 week course for your group. The preferred number of group members is 10, but I am willing to go a little higher/lower depending on the situation.
Please email me at hodgepodgeofwellbeing@gmail.com if you wish to set up a workshop or class.
